Keyless Entry and Push Button Start systems have become standard features in many Chevrolet models, offering convenience and enhanced security. If your vehicle has a Keyless Access system it will let you lock or unlock the doors, access the liftgate or trunk by pushing the button on the handle instead of using a key as long as the transmitter it’s within range of the car. Push Button Start complements this system by enabling you to start your engine with the push of a button, provided the key fob is inside the vehicle. This feature improves ease of use and reduces wear on traditional ignition components.

We will share some information from Chevy user manual about general use, personalization settings, and what to do if the battery on the key fob run out of power.

keyless Unlocking-Locking from the Driver Door:

The keyless access system allows for vehicle entry when the remote keyless entry transmitter is within a three-foot range of the driver’s door. Pressing the button on the handle will unlock the driver door. If the button is pressed again within five seconds, all passenger doors will unlock. After five seconds of inactivity since the button was press to open press it and will cause all doors to lock.

If your vehicle is equipped with Keyless Open, it will be enabled upon vehicle delivery. If you don’t want this feature, you can disable it.

To disable Keyless Open (not available on all vehicles):

With the vehicle off, press and hold the Lock and Unlock buttons on the key fob for three seconds. The turn signal lamps will flash four times to indicate it’s disabled. Now to unlock the vehicle and disarm the alarm system, you will have to press the Unlock button on the key fob.

To enable Keyless Open:

With the vehicle off, press and hold the Lock and Unlock buttons on the key fob for three seconds. The turn signal lamps will flash two times to indicate Keyless Open is enabled.

Welcome/Walkaway Lighting:

When your vehicle detects your key fob within three feet, it will activate Welcome Lighting, if equipped. On some models, your exterior door handles will light up.

When you turn off and exit the vehicle, the vehicle may also activate Walkaway Lighting. The degree of the lighting experience ranges from standard to an animated display, depending on model. You can adjust your entry and exit lighting and more in the vehicle’s Settings menu.

General personalization settings:

To access the vehicle personalization menu, touch the settings icon. The settings menu it is organized into categories, Select the desired category to display a list of available options.

The following are possible vehicle personalization features. Depending on the vehicle, some may not be available:

  • Keyless Open — Enable/disable.

  • Passive Locking — Automatically locks doors and trunk/liftgate after you turn off the vehicle, exit with the key fob and close all the doors.

  • Passive Unlocking — Determine which doors unlock upon the first press of the button on the driver’s door.

  • Remote Door Unlock — Changes which doors unlock when you use the key fob Unlock button.

  • Remote Left in Vehicle Alert — Horn chirps if you accidentally leave your key fob in the vehicle after exiting.

  • Remote Removed From Vehicle Alert — Horn chirps if the key fob is removed from the vehicle while it’s still on.

  • Remote Unlock Light Feedback — Exterior lights flash when you unlock the vehicle with the key fob.

  • Remote Lock Feedback — Exterior lights flash and horn sounds when you lock the vehicle with the key fob.

Driver door key lock cylinder access in case of dead battery

The key inside the remote keyless entry transmitter, is used to open the driver door. To remove the emergency key press the small button near the button side or back of the transmitter and hold while pulling out the side closest to the button. This will reveal the mechanical key inside. Never pull the key out without pressing the button.

To access the driver door key lock cylinder:

  • Pull the door handle (1) to open position and hold it open until cap removal is complete.

  • Insert the key into the slot (3) on the bottom of the cap (2) and lift the key upward.

  • Move the cap (2) rearward and remove.

  • Use the key in the cylinder to open the door.

To replace the cap:

  • -Pull the door handle (1) to open position and hold it open until cap installation is complete.

  • -Insert the two tabs (6) at the back of the cap between the seal (5) and the metal base (4).

  • -Slide the cap forward and press the forward edge to install the cap in place.

  • -Release the door handle.

  • -Check that the cap is secure.

Ones inside the car if the transmitter battery is dead, the driver information center displays message are shown in the center of the instrument cluster. May display NO REMOTE DETECTED or NO REMOTE KEY WAS DETECTED PLACE KEY IN TRANSMITTER POCKET THEN START YOUR VEHICLE. The driver information center may also display REPLACE BATTERY IN REMOTE KEY.

The transmitter pocket provides a backup way to start the vehicle, there is an antenna that picks up the signal by directly communicating with the Remote keyless entry transmitter.

The location of the transmitter pocket varies depending on the year and model, some common locations are typically found in the center console, one of the cup holders, near the cup holder, under a removable tray or liner inside the armrest. To start a car when the remote isn't detected, open the appropriate compartment, place the key fob in the designated pocket, and then press the brake and start button as usual.
