Porsche Smart Key fob
Porsche's passive entry systems, known as Entry & Drive or Comfort Access, allow you to lock and unlock your car, and start the engine, as long as the transmitter it’s within range of the car. The system uses proximity sensors on the door handles to detect the key's encrypted code, automatically unlocking the vehicle when you grab the handle. It also enables personalized settings for different drivers and can be configured in the infotainment system to allow for functions like opening the tailgate with a foot gesture, you can choose to lock/unlock all doors or only the driver’s door on the first touch, some features can be temporarily disabled with the key as well on selected models.
The First generation of Porsche models to offer a passive entry system used a proximity sensor to detect the key fob when the driver placed their hand around the door handle. It also enabled a "keyless" startup, allowing the car to be started by turning a knob in the ignition slot while the key fob was inside the vehicle. In the event of dead battery on the Smart Key fob the emergency key will be use to unlock the car, and the knob can be removed by unlocking it; cycling the knob from on to off with no key fob in the car and then pulling it out, it will expose the key slot, insert the tip of the Smart Key fob and turn to start.

For models that did not came equipped with the Porsche's passive entry system or Comfort Access, Keyless Entry can be use by pressing buttons on the key fob (transmitter) that are dedicated to locking or unlocking the doors and opening the trunk or tailgate, once inside the car the tip of the transmitter has to be inserted in the key slot, to the left of the steering wheel and turn for the car to start.
On later generations as technology advanced Porsche models equipped with Comfort Access do not use a traditional electronic ignition switch. Instead, the vehicle starts with a push-button ignition system, allowing keyless engine start as long as the smart key fob is inside the car. This system improves convenience and security by eliminating the need to physically insert a key.
